An Abandoned Friend Reappears!

For some who are wondering where the Abandoned Friend is, well....I was in Singapore for a month. Yes, the third visit since I moved to Moscow in April last year. One will never have enough of their own country. Simply because the people you love are there.

Things seem to change every time I go back. New buildings, new landmarks etc. Am I imagining things or what? I seem to feel that things are getting more and more expensive in Singapore. Nonetheless, the prices are still low compared to what you will pay in Moscow.

One of my objectives of going back this time was to complete the paperwork for the sale of my Floravale house. Yes, we got it sold. Had mixed feelings when we decided to sell the house. Felt sad because it was our first house, a house with our own memories and memories of our beloved Pebble. Also happy as we got it sold with minimised loss. Looking forward to the new house.

I also got a chance to bring my godson to the beach this time. It was an impromptu arrangement but we had a good time. Shan't write too much cos his mother has a blog on it too. Here's the link: http://ilove-ralph.blogspot.com/2007/07/evening-out-to-east-coast-park-with.html .

When I left in Mar this year, I had yet to see the tummies of the 2 pregnant mothers. Finally managed to feel the 2 piglets. It is exciting to think that the next time I go back, it will be my first meeting with them. Really looking forward to it. 加油妈妈们:)

Managed also to squeeze in a trip to Bintan too :) Poor Adrian. We dragged him to Bintan on the day he landed in Singapore. He didn't even have a chance to catch a breather. We pampered ourselves with a spa (even though the place we did it looked sleazy), nice dinners, ATV rides, swim etc. The only thing we didn't quite enjoy was playing Monopoly with Jenny. For those who know who we are, remember, NEVER attempt to play this game with Jenny. She simply has too much luck in the game. We couldn't even beat her when we combined efforts.

Rest of the time was spent shopping, eating, catching up with friends, signing papers for the sale of the house, etc. Looking forward to my next trip back. See ya soon my friends :)

It Has Been 6 Months....

Tomorrow is the 27th again. It has been a habit for me to dedicate this day of the month to Pebble. Yes, is already 6 months. But it still feels like she just went missing yesterday. I always wonder how she is, who has taken her and will she still recognise me if we meet one day. I pray that she is safe and happy everyday.

Mummy misses you so much. Kisses....

The Sun Is Out!

Finally the sun is out and the heat wave is gone. Now the temperature hovers around 20 to 28 degrees. Nice cool with some breeze. My friends decided that it was the perfect time for a BBQ. Something we had been thinking of doing since winter. So we got ourselves organised and last Sat, we held our first BBQ in Moscow.

Some arrived earlier to help the host with the preparation e.g organised the food, laid the table and did lawning. We were very fortunate to have satay and otah from Singapore. Thanks to our friends who just returned from Singapore that very morning.

We ate, we talked, we had fun and soon, we decided that it was about TIME!. Not to leave but to start our mahjong session. We brought along our mahjong table (yeah, we were that hardcore). We had 2 tables. We started teaching those friends who were unfamiliar with the game. Then all the "pong", "gang" and "hu" started. Mahjong is one game that the moment you start, you forget about the time. As it only gets dark at about 10pm nowadays, we lose track of time. Finally, the day ended at about 1am. Reluctantly, we stopped the game, packed up and headed home, only to find ourselves waking up at about 11am the next day.

Feels Like Home

After reading CanIcan's blog about mobtv, I decided to try. A few days later, I got an email to register for the free trial for Global Mobtv. I guess watched the last episode of Phua Chu Kang a couple of hours ago. Great! I remembered I missed that episode as I was on the way back to Moscow. I am now downloading some dramas. Just wondering what will the charges be like once the trial period is over. In the meantime, I should just enjoy this free service. Just one thing though. Takes patience to download programmes, I realised.

Helpless! Part 2 - 老公 to the rescue

After much sulking at home, I sent an email to my 老公 for help. He got his colleague to call. Ok, got my order, after much exasperation. This is the thing I really hate. You can't do anything without assistance. Makes one feels so ineffective!

Helpless!

What the F***! I am sorry that I have to use the first bad word in my blog but I am utterly pissed off at this very minute. I was trying to place some orders for sausages for this Sat's bbq. The website was in English because it was meant for expats. But when I clicked "send order", a dialouge box came up telling me some rubbish in Russian. What the heck! If I can understand that, then I WILL NOT BE SERVING ON THE ENGLISH SITE. HOW STUPID IS THAT? NOBODY COULD HELP AND I COULDN'T FIND MY KEYBOARD ON MY RUSSIAN TRANSLATION SOFTWARE. PLUS MY DIGITAL DICTIONARY HAD TO FAIL AT A TIME LIKE THIS!!!!!!!! BESTEST, WHEN I CALLED, NOBODY ON THE OTHER LINE COULD SPEAK A WORD OF ENGLISH!!!!!!!

Being There....

I had quite a disturbing day yesterday. A friend was diagnosed with optic neutritis. Though she said it was nothing serious but I am still worried. It sets me thinking about things my friends had gone through during my 1 year in Moscow. Like what Line said, I really hope this will be a good year for all of us. There were many downs last year and eventhough what goes up must come down, I hope the reverse is also true for this case. See you guys soon!

Asian Pacific Food Fair 07

Many have asked me what do I do to pass time in Moscow. One of the things is to help the embassy with charity fairs like the Asian Pacific Food Fair. I remembered that this was the first fair I attended when I first arrived in Moscow. It is also a fair that many Asians look forward to, particularly for the cuisine.

My day started with the setting up of the Singapore stall. We had pre-packed sauces, 3-in-1 coffee and some cook books to sell. The 3-in-1 coffee packs were the first to clear. I assumed that was because they were good buys for the Russians and the Indonesians. Many came back to ask if we had more. We had more difficulty with the pre-packed sauces as the locals were not familiar with them. Nonetheless, the sauces were popular with Asians and expats. We did well with the sale.

While I was busy at the stall, my pals in Moscow had a good time shopping and eating (see picture :P). First was breakfast at the Malaysian stall. Nasi Lemak, curry puffs etc. Then was the shopping. And more shopping. At the end of the day, many wallets were empty and the fruits were; faberge eggs (quite a few), ear rings, display basket, sauces of course, bracelet, pendant....

Was the day over? Of course...NOT! The party adjourned to Cecilia's house for some drinks, snacks and vitamin D while waiting for me (see picture again). It was a nice day to just chill out and bathe ourselves in the sun, something that you probably would not get for half a year. It was also the best opportunity to decide on a bbq next week. So Akan Datang!

To Judge And Be Judged

When I told Ah Line that I was writing about this, her reaction was, "I am guilty!" Well, I think all of us have our fair share of judging people and being judged. Maybe even started when we were very young. When we were all children, we looked around and "surveyed" who we thought could be our "kaki" before we tried to make friends. When we were in school, our intelligence was determined by our school results. While we were looking for life-time partners, we applied our combination of "no logic" feel with practical rationals to ascertain if that potential man / woman was our ultimate. These are examples of judging and being judged.

While we may have been growing up in this kind of environment, we may not be at ease at all, when faced with a situation where you have to exercise your judgement. We may be even more uncomfortable when we know we are being scrutinised and judged. How so, you may ask? Well, if you are the judge, you have to ensure that your judgement is unbiased (not easy), made with the best understanding of the situation and probably with empathy. Many a times, we are swayed by our own feelings and emotions and hence our judgment may be tinted. However, having said that, I am not implying that one should always sit on the fence and not have any opinion of his own. I think when we pass judgement, we have to do so responsibly and reasonably.

On the other side of the coin, I don't think anyone likes to be judged. It gives a feeling of belittlement sometimes. I guess in order to minimise misjudgement by people around us, we have to increase their understanding of us. How do I expect my friends to know that I like to eat durian if I don't tell them or I don't eat with them? Sometimes, the more we share, we more comfortable we are with one another, the lower the guard for you know these are people who do not look at you with tinted glasses as you did not tint their sight in the first place.

How Much Is Enough?

I met some friends for lunch today and the topic of "how much is enough came up". My friends, a nice young couple about my age, were telling us that for them to live comfortably in Singapore, they would need a monthly income of about $7500. That amount includes car, house, daily expenses and gym membership. The question was thrown to Adrian and I. Honestly, I have not made any serious calculations. But I reckon it should be around that amount. That set me thinking. We have no kids and our monthly expenses were already as such when we were in Singapore. What happens when we have (readers, don't let your imagination runs wild)? How much is enough then? Some of my friends may argue that when children arrive, you basically change some of your spending patterns e.g overseas trips to insurance, entertainment expenses to paediatric spending etc, such that your monthly requirements are kept to about the same as before.

Pondering further, I think the crux of the issue lies in what kind of standard of living are we after? There are families who can survive happily and decently with half of our monthly income. 所为知足尝乐嘛 :) 你的幸福款项是多少呢?

BB Meimei

I remembered about 6 months ago, my god daughter was borned. It was quite an experience watching her arrive at this world. I remembered it was a Friday morning when I received an sms from her mum saying that she felt contraction and was on the way to the hospital. I was put on stand-by mode. I jumped out from my bed after reading the sms and had a quick shower. Minutes later, I was trying to get a cab to Mt E. Because it was just after peak hours, taking a cab from Woodlands was a nightmare. No cab in sight. Waited for about half an hour before I finally got one. In the cab, I was busy passing on the message to the rest of the girls, "...contraction...Meimei's coming!..." Everyone was so excited and the smses came non-stop.

Then, at the clinic, the doctor confirmed that it was contraction but Meimei was not expected to arrive yet so we were told to "take a walk". We ended up window shopping at Paragon, giving Meimei a last minute crash course of branded goods. We happily went for lunch thereafter with Liang. When we returned to the clinic after that, Meimei decided that it was about time she seriously pushed herself out. So mummy had more severe contraction resulting having to walk at 0.05km per hour. When we finally reached the clinic, the nurses were going out for lunch and we had the option to wait elsewhere or go directly to the delivery ward. Mummy decided that she could still wait cos she wanted to see the gynae before going for delivery. The wait, eventhough was only 30 minutes, really scared the wits out of me. Many scenarios were going through my mind, "what if she cannot walk? what if her water bag burst? what if...."

Nurses came back from lunch and were ready to do a last check before mummy was wheeled to the delivery ward. At the delivery ward, which was quite comfy, you see experienced nurses walking in and out. I was lucky to be able to have a stint in there though not for long (was told that normally they don't allow people besides husband in it). The nurse "tricked" me into going out as they had to do the injection and said that I could go back after it was done. I never did.

A few hours later, Meimei arrived naturally! All of us were so excited and the dian gu of forming teams to see the bb came from here. I think the first to reach hospital to see her was Line and Ngiam (if I didn't remember wrongly). All those memories were just six months ago.

Now, she can crawl, sit up and even stand! Think she is as atheletic as her parents. As what her mummy said, "she is going places on her own!". I wonder what she can do by the time I get back in June :)

Yes/No?

I always have this rebellious feeling when people "boss" me to do things that I didn't like or didn't volunteer for. Either I take my own sweet time to complete the tasks or simply ignore them. I don't think it is a good behaviour, however, unless I master the skills to say "No" firmly and confidently, I will continue to take this cowardly approach. It feels strange not knowing how to say "No" when I used to teach teenagers how to say "No" to smoking. Maybe is not so much of not knowing how to say it but rather feeling obligated to say "Yes" and regret thereafter.

Exasperation!

Ever read a book that is so captivating but have a disappointing ending? You just feel like burning it at the end of your reading and really cursing the author right? I was tenaciously plouging through a book yesterday, trying to reach the ending so that I can piece everything together (is one of those conspiracy theory, cover-ups kind of thriller). And....the ENDING....just left me with more questions than answers. The feeling is worse than reading a book with a lousy ending. When I was reading the acknowledgement thereafter (trying to find some clues to a possible ending), I was kind of upset to realise that the ending was suggested by the author's 24-year old son. I am now hesistant to start another one by him though I enjoyed the author's wits and humor. Torn!

Other Things Women Do Besides Gossiping

Many of my friends had returned from their vacations and we had a gathering today. There were 7 of us (one was down with sore throat). We decided we should learn how to cook Burmese cuisine. It was our practice to each contribute some ingredients so some came with chicken, vegetables, fish etc. We started the day with fried bee hoon. That was supposedly to be our breakfast (at about 12pm). Then we started making lunch (how to not grow fat man!). All thanks to our Myanmar friend that within an hour, a full Burmese lunch was ready. It was so good that I had forgotten to take pictures of it. After lunch, we got on to plan for next week's menu and it was decided....ban mee! Honestly, I really miss Singapore because such foods are so readily available. Nonetheless, absence makes the heart grows fonder. The unavailability forces us to seek alternatives and in this case, putting our knowledge together and be our own chef. Cheers to US!

Sanity Break!!!

Adrian and I decided that we should take a short sanity break and he suggested to go to Frankfurt. Besides to stay sane, there was also one other motive; to attend Basel World in Switzerland. You might be wondering, "Then shouldn't you guys be going to Switzerland instead?" Well, we reckoned that hotels would be expensive and might not have vacancy since it was peak period. We decided to go to Frankfurt and drove in from there. We also would took the opportunity to visit our friends there. One of our friends was very kind to put us up at his place. Beautiful view from his living room window. You basically caught the skyline of Frankfurt.

Day 2: Basel World

I jumped into Day 2 because Day 1 was just settling in and dinner so nothing very much to write about. We woke up early to get ourselves ready as the drive to Basel would take us about 3 hours. We were relying on the GPS system to get us there. I must say it was very convenient to drive around Europe. However, while the GPS was fantastic, it was not all reliable at times. On 1 or 2 occasions, the instructions came late and we missed the turn. The good thing was that the system was able to readjust itself and within seconds, we were on track again. It was a pity that I did not take a picture of the toilet bowl at the petrol kiosk. Well, it was state of the art. One would expect the toilet at the highway stops to be dirty but those in Germany were fantastic. After your flushed, there was a mechanism that would rotate the toilet seat such that it was sanitised for the next user.

The scale of Basel World was quite impressive and we got the opportunity to see the newest watch models for many renowned brands. What was disappointing was the absence of the big brands like the IWC, JLC etc. Nonetheless, it was still a good experience. Wondering why there aren't any pictures here? That is because somebody left the camera in the car. Thou shall not say who but I am definitely the innocent party :P

Day 3: City and the University town

The day started on a fantastic note because the weather was beautiful. It was like 23-24 degrees with nice sunshine and blue sky. We decided to take a slow walk to the city. It was a Friday morning and we met many who were jogging by the river, walking their dogs, reading on a bench and we were wondering..."don't Germans have to work on Fridays?"

One of the things that struck me immediately was the air. I think I have been deprived of fresh air since we move to Moscow and I almost forget how fresh air smells like. The walk took us almost 1.5 hours (good for weight losing as I have put on 3 kg from my last visit to Singapore). Here is some of what I saw...

After the morning walk, we met a friend for lunch. It was really kind of him to drive us out of the city for lunch. He took us to a beer garden where we had German beer, pork knuckles (I would prefer the Chinese version though) and some dessert. It was wonderful to dine in the open with mountains surrounding you and occasionally you could hear the neighing of the horses from the stable afar.

After lunch, we continued exploring the city. The city had an interesting mix of streets; some selling high-end branded goods, some selling wet market stuff, some were rows of restaurants etc.

By mid afternoon, we were done with our city tour and were scheduled to go to the university town about 1 hour drive from the city. The town is called.....Wurzburg. You can read more about the town via this link:

http://www.galenfrysinger.com/wurzburg.htm

It was a nice evening walk around the town while my friends went off for some business dinner. As it was Friday evening, there were many people but I did not feel crowded at all. I think it was because people were very relaxed and laid back and hence I did not feel the rush. Looking from one side of the town where a dam laid by it, I could see a fortress and rows and rows of vineyard. Beautiful!

Day 4: Flea Market & Vineyards

The day started with a visit to the flea market. I have always found flea markets an interesting place to browse around. If you look hard enough, you can always find interesting things or valuable things at a fraction of the price. It is also a place where you can see the way of life of the people living there through the things they sell. This one I went to, was selling many bicycle parts. Simply because cycling is a way of life in Frankfurt. There were also several stalls selling watches as Germany is one of the watch making countries. We also saw a few Russian stalls selling various types of Russian handicrafts. Not surprising since both countries are quite near to each other and historically connected too. If you stare hard at the photo on the right, you can find Zidane among the crowd too (fake one of course) :P

After the flea market, it was lunch and off to the vineyard at this town called the Rhein. It was here that I realised the cuckoo clock originated from Germany and not Switzerland (told to me by a friend but I did not check it up). It was fun tasting wine at the vineyard. The person attending to us was very friendly and patiently explaining the different kinds of Rieslings available (mostly white ones). We also got to taste the different categories. After doing the tasting, we put our order and went to the warehouse to collect our wines. This part was the best. The young chap guarding the warehouse was in a daze. When we gave him our order, he gave us 6x of what we bought. We didn't realise it until we drove off from the vineyard and were torned between keeping them or returning them to be guilt-free. We did the latter with much regrets because the chap was not even thankful when we drove back to return the excess.

After the first vineyard, we decided to take a walk at the town area. There were many interesting shops and I managed to buy a westie clay figurine (which I started collecting just before I lost Pebble) and a small cuckoo clock for the new house. We could have made it to our 2nd vineyard if not for the little accident that we met along the way. We were relying on the GPS which gave us a wrong instruction and the car rolled down a 3-step staircase. The car was stuck on the steps because it had lost traction at one of the rear wheels and was unable to reverse backwards. We reckoned that we better called for the tow agency rather than trying to push it as the damage would be too painful for my friend to bear (it was a new BMW 5-series). So, he called and we waited......while waiting, the curious Germans came to look at the car, discussed among themselves the situation, took pictures, said their "condolences" and even gave us water and dessert. It was an interesting experience and a blessing in disguise as the damage was minimal. You must be thinking that the tow agency got us out of the situation? Nain! The first service truck came after an hour and assessed the situation. Concluding that he could not do anything, he went back supposedly to call for more help. Nothing came and we waited and waited. Eventually, some Germans decided to do the most primitive way...to lift the car up using MAN power and reverse the car backwards. With the 7 MENs' help, within seconds, we were "rescued"!. MAN here is capitalised because although they were a great help, they were rather chauvinistic. My friend, a lady, wanted to be among the group to push the car was shoved aside by them :P

The conclusion of this episode also concluded our short sanity break. Till then....

A Long Awaited Trip

This is a long overdued blog. I have always wanted to go on a trip with my Dad and ideally to China, his birth place. However, the only time that he is available to travel is during the Chinese New Year period due to his work. Finally, this wish of mine was fulfilled eventhough the destination is Bangkok. Though it was a short 4 days 3 nights trip, it was fun. Here are the highlights....

Time To File Tax...I Forgot About It :P

Is those taxing times again. This year, as I am not in Singapore, I did not get any news about filing taxes. So...it was conveniently forgotten.....until...when my friend reminded me about it in Frankfurt. When I finally managed to get down into doing it...the system was down for maintenance! Sorry IRAS, got to wait until tomorrow before I can file for it...anyway..don't think I will be taxed this year cos I did not have much income :P

Car Craze!

Many who know me long enough will know that I am a person who cannot do without a car. The worse torture is having a car and not being able to use it (like my situation now). It feels even more terrible to have a volvo and not driving it. Anyway, just to satisfy the materialistic side of me, I have been fantasizing about the car that I want to buy when I go back to Singapore. Here are my top 3 choices though none of them is the ideal one:

My Weird Dreams

Over the weekend, I had very weird but funny dreams. Here is the first one. I dreamt that I was a student studying in a high school. There was a huge plot being planned by unscrupulous management to have total control of all students through the injection of an "obedience" virus. I happened to find out about this scam and tried to warn all the students about it during the day the virus was launched. Many students fled the school and the whole institution became all chaotic. Unfortunately, the instigator found out about my whereabouts (was trying to rescue some girls from the female toilet then). A killer was sent. I caught a glimpse of the killer behind the toilet door and instructed all the girls to lie low. He missed the first few shots. Then he reloaded and tried again. This time, i met my destiny! Was wounded and captured and placed into an incubator........(music..more music..somebody's handphone...I was awakened!)

Here is the second one.

Exams were over and all my classmates were roaming around campus doing nothing. I do not know why but was tasked to wash hair for 3 persons; a girl called Yvonne, Jenny and Adrian. Yvonne was the first to get my hair salon service. I was totally unprepared when she came in. I couldn't even find the shampoo. After lots of searching, managed to dig it out from somewhere. So, I started. Put the shampoo and then spread the lather to the rest of the head. Oops, where was my shower head? From afar, at the corner of my eye, I saw a small basin with a shower head so I dragged her to get her head washed. Water was dripping and I realised there was no towel!!! But as with all dreams, the problem was solved instantaneously. Suddenly, 2 towels appeared in my hands. The ordeal was not very pleasant for Yvonne due to the unpreparedness. However, she was very encouraging and offered some advice at the end of the service. Next came Jenny. This time, things were smoother......(ding dong, the message tone from my handphone went off...I wondered why did people like to call me when I am dreaming...I woke up!)

Phobia

I was browsing through some of the books that I brought over from Singapore that day and I found one that talks about hidden fears. It is written by a local doctor by the name of Ko Soo Meng. I read with great interest on the part about Phobias. Here is his definition: A phobia is an irrational fear which is excessive, absurb and out of proportion to the objective risk of the object or situation. It cannot be explained away even though the victim knows that it is illogical.

I guess this is the best explanation for people who wonder why I am so scared of lion dance. It is a phobia, a fear that is irrational and absurb and I know it is illogical. I always thought probably I am the one and only one who has such a phobia but I was wrong. As I read through the book, Dr Ko highlighted another similar case. The only difference is that the "victim" is a 7 year old boy. But who knows, this phobia may continue into his adulthood?

There are some suggestions to overcome phobias that the book offered. But I think the best solution is not to do anything. Anyway, lion dance only appears once a year :P

Best Medicine?

Someone once told me, one of the best way to deal with a lost is to keep yourself busy such that you have no time to think of it. But nobody tell me how to deal with a lost in a place with little support and nothing to keep me busy.

Who says animals are not like Humans?

I have been helping a friend look after her 2 maltese for the past 1 week. They are sisters and one is slightly bigger than the other. Strangely, while I was looking at them play yesterday, I thought to myself, "My, the younger sister has a character that resemble that of a young, confident, naughty but attractive-to-men kind of woman. While the older sister has a character that is docile, demure and honest. The type that will make a good wifey."

The younger sister is called Sasha while the older one is called Misha. Sasha is very attention seeking and passionate and she will make sure that you comb her first, carry her first etc. And she will use her paws to draw your hands to her to get attention. On the other hand, Misha is more honest, not up to tricks like these. She will just look at you, turn her body around for you to belly-rub her. When ask to sit, she will obey. When you carry her, she will give you one big lick on the face (yucks).

Personally, I like Sasha's playful, wilful but fun character. I also like Misha's independent and honest personality. I liken these persona to when guys look at girls. Maybe many will be attractive to the upbeat, fun yet rebellious and wilful kind of girls cos they are more exciting to be with? But I also believe, there are a group who would prefer character like Misha. I wonder if there is any truth to the saying, the younger ones will prefer the former while the more mature one will choose the latter. What do you think?

Disclaimer: I am not comparing females to bitches. Just thought that there are some characters in animals that maybe similar to that of humans.

P/s: I am not prepared to put their photos eventhough they are very lovely doggies cos this site is still solely dedicated to Pebble.

Pig Year!...So Far???

The Good:
Knowing that there are going to be new additions to the Pig year.

The Bad:
A fallen friend
A losing-money asset
A longing heart for Pebble

What have I learnt?

I have been wondering what is Pebble trying to teach me through her disappearance. I came to the following conclusions; that it reaffirms my belief that it will always be a very painful experience to lose something very dear to me; that it allows me to see the truth about some friendships.

But if you ask me, is it all worth it? My answer is no. I don't need the reassurance and I can do without the truth about some friends. I just want my Pebble back.

Although going back to Singapore is a good escape. Emotions have not changed. How Pebble was lost, what are the clues we had about where she could be, is she alive, is she safe.....all these had not erased from my memory. I know I probably will not get answers to the above.....

1 Month!

Same day last month, Pebble was frightened by the fire crackers and ran away. I have not seen her thereafter. Today, we went back to the estate again just to take a look. I wonder if I will ever see her again. If I don't, I hope she is happy and warm. She will always be in our hearts and always be my dearest baby.

Pebble, Mummy miss you!

Dealing With Lost

The following question keeps coming to my mind after I lost Pebble. Is dealing with death easier than dealing with a lost that has a possibility of being recovered? Pebble is my first lost in my life. It has not been easy dealing with this sudden lost. The first week was terrible. There were a lot of sadness, heartaches, pains and tears. I wanted her back so badly. Then it was the phase of coming to terms with the harsh reality that I might never find her back. Just when you thought you were in more control with your emotions, phone calls of Pebble sightings rekindled the hope. And since then, it was a period of trying to get your life back, managing disappointment and cautiously dealing with new leads. There are many emotional upheavals in this phase and you wonder when will everything be normal again? When to give up and should we ever give up? What else can we do if we don't? Maybe in this sense, dealing with death is easier? I don't know...really don't.

Coming face to face with the pet sitter!!!

We decided to arrange a session to settle all the issues with the pet sitter once and for all. We had 4 Russians to help us with the questioning; Adrian's interpreter, driver, a friend and his driver. When the pet sitter came, he looked worried and shock that there were so many people around. The Russians gave him a hard time. A friend asked what did I hope to achieve out of this session. I guess firstly, we wanted to have a full picture of how he lost Pebble and what did he do during those few days before we came back. Secondly, we wanted to affirm how he felt after he lost Pebble; was he sorry, guilty etc or simply, too bad, she ran away. Thirdly, we wanted a closure to the episode that we have with him.

I guess at the end of the session, these are our conclusions:
a) he unleased Pebble for no good reason,
b) he did little to recover her,
c) he felt nothing for the lost,
d) he is an irresponsble and stupid chap. Even the Russians who were present could not understand his stupidity and indifference.

An Update

Today is the start of the working week after a very long public holiday (lasted a week). Adrian, his colleague, our driver and I went back to the estate to see if we had any luck with the schools. Sad to say, the school will be closed until 15 Jan, but the security guard assured us that they were aware of Pebble's disappearance; apparently, it had became the talk of the town. They were on the look out for her as they took such cases very seriously (Russians are dog lovers). Adrian's colleague has also been helping us keep tabs on those websites listing sales of dogs and lost and found.

We also placed press ads in the local newspaper as well as the one for Moscow, and bought a 1-week TV ad in the region where she was lost. Now, all we can do is wait and hope that someone will see the ads and bring Pebble back to us.

To my friends: Don't worry, Adrian and I will manage. See you back in Singapore on 7 Feb.

The 10th Day!

Today marks the 10th day of Pebble's disappearance. Adrian and I decided to take a break from the search and do some administrative things like reprinting her flyers, replenishing tubes of glue and scotch tape, and wash the car. Many things seem not in place in her absence. There was no one to chase after the vacuum cleaner when I was vacuuming the house, no shit to clean in the toilet, no one to squeeze underneath the bed and many many more. There are many many memories of her in the house...every corner reminds you of her absence.

To Pebble

I am sorry that mummy entrusted you to a wrong care taker such that you were separated from us. It will be a decision for which mummy will never forgive herself. But mummy and daddy will continue to look for you...we will never give up on you.

To All My Friends.....

Thank you Line and Ngiam for getting me a good "qian" and I am patiently waiting for the lost to be recovered.
Thank you Jenny and Fang for checking on me.
Thank you Liang for lightening up the atmosphere for everybody.
Thank you Weiling for sending me the link to the online "qiu qian" mechanism
Thank you all for feeling the pain with me and giving the support.

In case you are wondering what we have gathered about Pebble so far:
28 Dec (1 day after she ran away) - spotted in the kindergarten looking hungry: this really breaks my heart cos Pebble was never, ever being left hungry. It breaks my heart also she is so near where she ran off and the pet sitter didn't even bother to look for her.
30 Dec - spotted in another school being chase by another dog to a construction site at noon.
30 Dec - spotted walking towards a very long and uninhabited road.

After our analysis, our hope is that she ran into the kindergarten looking for food and she was picked up by someone in the school hence nobody in the neighbourhood saw her thereafter. As for the 2nd and 3rd sighting, the white dog is not her. There are many white dogs around the area indicated. Maybe this is self-denial but I really don't understand why nobody sees her if she is still straying around.

On the eve of the New Year, I lost Pebble :(

Can someone tell me where she is, how she is, what she is doing, when can she come home? I don't know what to do without Pebble. I called my heart out to her but nothing came back. Pebble...come home...Mummy is waiting for you!

The fog...jeopardising my Christmas plan!!!

The weather is going haywire. It only started snowing 5 days ago in Moscow and the current temperature is nowhere near when it should have been. Now the fog situation is jeopardising my Christmas plan in London. Does not even know if my flight will be delayed or worse still, cancelled. I really hope the fog clear up tomorrow. At least I will not feel so bad that I cannot celebrate my Christmas with my friends who will be enjoying their steamboat and satay lunch on Sunday. To all my friends, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It's finally SNOWING!!!

After much waiting, the snow has finally arrived in Moscow and the rest of Europe. Suddenly it becomes much colder so cannot leave home without ensuring proper insulation. Have to be very careful when you walk too. Last night, on my way to dinner, I almost slipped and fell. I wonder how harsh will this year's winter be?

My experience in the soup kitchen.

I followed a friend to help out in a soup kitchen yesterday. The soup kitchen is a place that provides hot meals for the old and needy. The elderly will come into the kitchen with vouchers. Each voucher will entitle them to a bowl of soup, a cup of tea, 2 small pieces of bread and about 4-5 pelmeni (russian dumplings). Some choose to eat at the kitchen while others prefer to tabao. It is quite sad looking at the containers they use to pack the food. Some came with more decent boxes while others just made do with used coke bottles to contain the tea etc.

While they are not the wealthy lot of the city dwellers, many are certainly a happy bunch. They came to the kitchen, besides to get some free hot meals, they also enjoy the company of their friends. One even told me that she hoped I find a good boyfriend and be blessed with good health. Many are also grateful of what they are eating and do not complain about the quality of the food (maybe they did but I cannot understand). Seldom you see any wastage left on their plates. I guess this is what they mean by happiness is not measured by how much or how little you have. But rather, is accepting and be contented with what you are already been blessed with.

Code Red In My Bank Account :(

Did my accounts today. OMG! How come there are still so many bills which are not cleared? After minusing off the amount, the little bonus that I got from Adrian does not exist anymore. I think I have to watch my spending. To make matter worse, there will be more up and coming temptations like post Christmas sale in London. How I wish it's raining money rather than raining cats and dogs. I am now 3 months behind my saving target. Time to do something drastic. Maybe Adrian will have only 1 meal a day starting from tomorrow :P.

Shen Bu You Ji!

There are a lot of shen bu you ji (s) in life and I have to meet 2 today. Caught in between a friend and somebody in authority. Then may have to attend some silly function in this rainy and cold weather. CAN SOMEBODY GET ME OUT OF THIS PLACE????

The 2 Puzzles In My Life At The ARK!

I spent all my Monday evenings at the ARK, commonly known as Muchuan to many, during my 1 month holiday in Singapore. It is a place that forms up 2 puzzles in my life so far. The first being during my university days and the second being the current phase of my life.

I remember during my uni days, I had a group of seniors who really love to spend our evenings at Muchuan. Listening to songs, enjoying colourful pao pao cha and indulging in one another's company. We just liked to sit around at the cushion area, talk rubbish and relax. We left a lot of memories behind, in the old ARK. Time passes, many of the old gang had moved on in their lives. Some are married, some are working overseas and some had...simply lost contact. Graduation, moving on to the next phase of our lives concluded our visits to Muchuan and also in some ways, concluded our friendships with one another.

It is rather sad that relationships of any kind get lost, get diluted, get broken when people stop putting in the effort. Many a times, we are the culprits of such an ending because there are other priorities in lives.

The second puzzle with the ARK started at the beginning of this year. This time, at a new location with a new set up. The initial feel of the place is that it is more "thin down". The old ARK gave a more warm and cozy feeling. Never mind the aesthetics, the old feel of the ARK remains. The visits were with a group of secondary school friends whom have managed to stick with one another for about 17 years. Thinking back, this is a remarkable achievement and a very valuable relationship many wish they had. The visit to the ARK had changed from fun and companionship (during uni days) to a place where few old friends share our joys, our sorrows and our inner thoughts of things and people around us.

There is also an interesting affiliation that we foster with the 4 singers at the ARK. They are Xi Mei, Mei Lian, Ah Du and Jian Hua (Monday segment - From 8pm to 11pm).

(4 out of the 6 people

here are the singers of the ARK on Monday evening. Who are the ones? This is for you to find out :) )

Why interesting affiliation? I guess is because how the acquaintance has evolved. From being just another audience at the ARK to having a form of familiarity with one another. Many a times I can feel the passion of what they believe in, the sincerity in their words and the thinking behind their thoughts. I never thought my evenings there are to see a show or a performance. It is more of going back to a familiar place, to see familiar people, to continue where we have left off and sometimes to seek solace in.

The ARK to me, is a place where friendship are formed, enjoyed, fostered and a place with many many fond memories.

To Monsters - Ganbatei and I really hope to be able to hear you and see you again. In the meantime, keep in touch :)

To my friends who are with me - Friends forever :)

Engine Restarting

Back from a long and wonderful vocation in Singapore. Some feelings after returning....

Singapore...bright and sunny...just like my life in the past 1 month.
Moscow....damp and cold....just like my life in the last 6 months.

Singapore...warm and friendly....just the friends and family I have back home.
Moscow....chilling and aloft....(don't want to describe...need to stay positive).

Stay tune....:)
