I was browsing through some of the books that I brought over from Singapore that day and I found one that talks about hidden fears. It is written by a local doctor by the name of Ko Soo Meng. I read with great interest on the part about Phobias. Here is his definition: A phobia is an irrational fear which is excessive, absurb and out of proportion to the objective risk of the object or situation. It cannot be explained away even though the victim knows that it is illogical.
I guess this is the best explanation for people who wonder why I am so scared of lion dance. It is a phobia, a fear that is irrational and absurb and I know it is illogical. I always thought probably I am the one and only one who has such a phobia but I was wrong. As I read through the book, Dr Ko highlighted another similar case. The only difference is that the "victim" is a 7 year old boy. But who knows, this phobia may continue into his adulthood?
There are some suggestions to overcome phobias that the book offered. But I think the best solution is not to do anything. Anyway, lion dance only appears once a year :P

Phobia is something that is beyond logic and explanation.
Overcoming it takes a lifetime and it might not be successful even till the end. Just gotta live with it.
I have "open sea phobia" too. To think i can swim non stop in the swimming but once in the open sea i can even forget how to breathe. So that's that.
Little imperfection that one has to dealwith in life :)
Take care!
